This page was designed to help you as a newly registered or existing NetPARENT user and we will appreciate any feedback or questions that can improve the efficiency of this application. You can also refer to the "NetPARENT HOW IT WORKS" PAGE to assist with certain topics.

1. Will NetPARENT work on my computer?
  • Yes, as long as you are running Windows 2000, 2003, XP and Vista.
    NetPARENT is windows 7 tested and compliant. System requirements are:
  • PC or compatible with 133 MHz or faster processor
  • 512 MB , 1G recommended
  • 100 MB of hard-disk space
  • Color monitor with 800x600 resolution
  • Active internet connection
2. How much disk space does NetPARENT take ?
  • The total application is 1.9 megabytes in size, and may grow with additional features with version upgrades
3. How does NetPARENT protect my child from harmful internet content?
  • The NetPARENT notification platform was designed not to block access to certain sights, but acts as a filter where keywords, phrases, symbols and any submitted characters, are entered into the dictionary and will reside under the four main categories (Health, Morality, Violence and General). When any of the predetermined case sensitive words/phrases are present on your computer, either through deliberate key-stroke actions or through normal internet traffic, that specific word/phrase will be notified to you as parent, either via your predetermined notification method eg: Sms or E-mail. You as parent will then have the option to block and unblock your computer remotely through sms commands.
4. Will NetPARENT interfere with any other applications on my computer?
  • No. Your security software that you are running on your computer will detect that NetPARENT is a filtering application. When confronted with a notification from your security application, you should allow the NetPARENT application, to function properly
5. Can I install NetPARENT on more than one computer?
  • Yes. NetPARENT allows you as main account holder to load the NetPARENT notification platform on three computers within your home, provided that the notification mobile number and e-mail address stays the same.
6. Should I inform my children that they are being monitored?
  • It is the discretion of you as parent, to inform your child or not.
7. How to Register?
  • Click on the "BUY NOW" button on this website if you are a first time user. If you are an existing account holder and wants to register a 2nd computer, then you can visit the " USER LOGIN PAGE". Please submit all your relevant information for authentication. Once this has been authenticated, you will receive an e-mail of confirmation.
8. My password
  • Your default password is netparent and it is advised that you change this to your own unique password once NetPARENT has been activated.



  • In a case where you have lost or forgotten your password, you can retrieve it by clicking on the "Recover Password" button on your NetPARENT user interface and your password will be sent via sms to the number submitted on the system
    Please create a password on the NetPARENT window by selecting "Setup" followed by "Change Password"





  • Your password will also be used to unlock your computer.
  • Your password should remain the same even in the event of NetPARENT being upgraded or reloaded.
  • Please remember to keep you password secret to avoid unauthorized access to the application.
9. SMS (short message service/text message) and e-mail notifications
  • The first step will be to complete the mobile number to which you will require the sms notifications to be sent. Select “Setup”  and by completing the “Account Settings” page “Mobile Number”





  • It will also be required to complete the e-mail address to which you will require the notifications to be sent by completing in the area provide "E-Mail Addresses:"
  • You can send a test sms by selecting "Test SMS" provided that you have submitted your mobile/cellular telephone and/or a test e-mail by selecting "Test E-Mail



  • You have the option to choose either the SMS or the e-mail notification or both simultaneously by selecting “Monitors” and selecting the relevant option on the “Set Monitors” window. The same process can also be done by selecting the “Notifications” button and “Set Monitors”



  • It is important that the relevant”Notify” boxes are ticked to be activated to receive notifications.
10. Detect internet connection
  • To be able to monitor TCP traffic on the Internet and to send e-mail notifications, the Internet Adaptor should be configured. Select "Set-up", "Detect Internet Connection" and then click "OK" to detect your internet connection. Please remember to click the "Detect Internet Connection" if you have changed your internet type, for example, from an ADSL to Wireless connection. This is to ensure that NetPARENT can identify the adapter to be monitored.



  • *Please note* NetPARENT might not detect the internet monitor, fail to configure the internet adapter, fail to pass captured packets to an application for network monitoring and analysis or will not be able to notify on predetermined triggers on TCP/IP traffic due to the following reasons:
    • The technology (driver) and hardware (wireless card) of the computer is outdated and results in certain limitations/driver limitations.
    • The user is on dail-up connection.
    • The user is using a 3G card that is not yet compatible with the NetPARENT application settings. Please feel free to report this to us.
    • Existing NetPARENT application is not in Shutdown mode while updating to a later version.
11. I did not receive a notification
  • In the unlikely event of a notification failure, please click on the button "send info to support"



  • Enter the request and send to the support team.



  • Please remember that you will not receive a sms-notification in the event of sms credits being exhausted or if the notification activation boxes have not been ticked. You will not receive an email-notification in the event of the internet connection being down, dysfunctional or if the notification activation boxes have not been ticked



  • You will also not receive any notifications if the Triggers have not been activated.
  • Please note that certain websites such as Facebook might use an encryption process for security measures and words or notifications might not be detected within the body of the URL.
  • Certain numeric values might also not be detected due to security measures on certain transactional pages and sites.
12. Notifications seems to repeat themselves
  • In the unlikely event of a pre-chosen word, web address or phrase being repeatedly notified via SMS or e-mail, then the following options should be considered:
  • You can consider adjusting the notification delay time frame. This will allow you to manage the time intervals (0-30 minutes) between notification alert sent. Select "My Account" and select "Re-notify Delay" to choose the time span between notifications.

  • Alternatively you can Deactivate NetPARENT" by selecting the "Close" button followed by "Deactivate NetParent".



  • You can also choose to "Shutdown NetPARENT" by selecting either the "Shutdown netparent" button or the Close button followed by followed by "Deactivate NetParent". To restart the application you will select your desktop again.



13. Can the application be deleted or uninstalled?
  • NetPARENT cannot be deleted or uninstalled while the application is running. NetPARENT needs to be in "shutdown mode" to be able to be deleted. Select the "Shutdown netparent" button and reply "Yes".



  • Please take note that no program or application can be 100% protected against being uninstalled by another person without the consent of the registered account holder and it is your duty to ensure that the application is enabled. NetPARENT is always activated by default once the computer was started or when the password has been entered when prompted.
14. The influence of Anti-Spy ware, Anti-Virus or other security software on NetPARENT.
  • It is your responsibility to configure your security software to exclude NetPARENT (WinPCap) from such scans. There is a possibility that your security software might detect WinPCap (Winpcap is a library that listens to network traffic) and this application forms and integral part of the NetPARENT application and should therefore be allowed.
15. How to manage the dictionary and customized words?
  • First select the "Dictionary" button and gain instant access to the "Edit Dictionary" window.



  • Choose the topic where you would like to store the specific entry.
  • Click on the specific topic ( Health, Morality, Violence & General) to add or delete entries.



  • Please note that you have to click the "Add" button that will be followed by a submission window where you can type the entry

  • You can choose to add the entry by clicking the "OK" button or cancel by using the "Cancel" button. Any entry can be removed by following the same procedure, by using the "Delete" button. Click "OK" button to save changes.
  • Please be aware that all the entries/words, web address or phrase in your customizable dictionary will be triggered and a notification(s) will be sent with the following actions:
  • Any dictionary words/numbers, web address or phrase entered as a keystroke on your computer.
  • Any dictionary words/numbers web address or phrase present in an e-mail body text or the World Wide Web Browser. Also please see point 11. "I did not receive a notification"
  • Due to the design of the application, any words or characters (alpha, numeric or alphanumeric) will be triggered and notified provided the specific monitor has been set through keystrokes and internet traffic that is currently present on your computer
  • Character samples:

    • +27123456789
    • Slang or street language (e.g.: howdy)
  • *Please note that the existing words in the dictionary when installed, only acts as samples, and should be removed, if not deemed appropriate
16. Why 4 different Trigger Topics?


  • The four categories in the dictionary were designed to only act as guideline for you as parent or user when eventually addressing certain issues on the NetPARENT Forum to be launched soon.
17. SMS built-in notification counter
  • The NetPARENT application has a built-in notification counter (not visible on the interface) that will contact you (via e-mail) when you have used the SMS's that were included in the original monthly purchase of the application. You can purchase additional SMS's online directly from NetPARENT by visiting www.netparent.co.za and selecting "User Login" followed by "SMS TOP-UP" as illustrated below.



18. The main screen / interface has "disappeared"
  • Please press Ctrl+Alt+n to access the NetPARENT application and submit your password to gain access or select the desktop icon. Normally the icon is situated on the bottom task bar.
19. How to launch and disable NetPARENT
  • When launching NetPARENT, click on your NetPARENT desktop icon or press Ctrl+Alt+n. You will need to submit your pre-chosen password.
  • To disable your NetPARENT application, click on the "Close" button on your NetPARENT user interface and select "Shutdown Netparent".



  • You will reactivate the application by clicking the NetPARENT desktop icon again and submitting your password.
  • NetPARENT can also be deactivated for specific sessions and this can be done by selecting the "Deactivate Netparent" button and reactivated by selecting the "Activate Netparent" button.
20. How to lock/unlock your computer remotely.
  • When a submitted word, web address or phrase, have been triggered, you will receive a SMS notification if you have selected the SMS trigger option on your NetPARENT application



  • It will read for example: "NetPARENT Internet trigger: "suicide" under the topic "Violence". Reply YES if you want to lock your computer." By replying "Yes" to this SMS on your cellular/mobile phone, your computer will be locked remotely



  • You will receive an SMS confirming this: "Thank you request for locking your PC has been granted". The user on the locked computer will not be able to access the application or any of the computer's functions without the remote activation via SMS. You can unlock the locked computer by replying "Open" to the locked confirmation SMS received. You will receive an SMS confirming this: "Thank you request for un-locking your PC has been granted" or you can enter the password.
21. Using your Alt symbol functions.
  • Some operating systems do not allow the Alt symbol insert functions while NetPARENT is running.
  • Close NetPARENT when you encounter this problem, and remember to re-activate your NetPARENT application when you leave your computer
